Concise Biography of Spock - First Officer of the Enterprise.

There is a large amount that could be written and has been written about Spock. Only a concise biography will be presented here.

Spock was born in 2230 to Sarek and Amanda. Spock's childhood was different to the others on Vulcan, due to the fact of being the first half-Vulcan, half-Human child (true IDIC!?!). He was torn between the two conflicting cultures - the mainly-emotional Human one and the mainly-logical Vulcan one. This struggle within himself continued for a long time, until he mind-melded with the entity V'ger, when he realized, through the emptiness of V'ger that although Mastery of emotions was desireable, total expungency was not. The full acceptence of this realization, however, came much later, when he tried to explain to Valeris that "Logic is the begining of wisdom - not the end." (STVI).

Just before Spock's Kahs'wan (rite of manhood) Spock decided to go through his own private survival ordeal by himself. He ran away into the desert, followed by I-Chaya, his pet Sehlat. In the Llangon Mountains he was attacked by a le-matya, but I-Chaya and his cousin Selek* saved him. However, I-Chaya was mortally wounded and in a lot of pain. Spock had to make the difficult desicion to let her die and end her further suffering. After this ordeal he made up his mind to fully follow the Vulcan way - C'Thia;. He passed his official Kahs'wan without any problem (there are a number of accounts on this as well - see e.g. Vulcan Acdemy Murders by J. Lorrah).

After passing his Kahs'wan at the age of 7, he was telepathically bonded to T'Pring, however at the appointed time of marriege T'Pring spurned Spock in favour of Stonn (TOS:Amok Time).

After his education, at the age of 18 he decided to join Starfleet instead of the Vulcan Science Academy. This caused a long rift between him and his father (How illogical), which was, eventually, healed when Spock saved Sarek's life (TOS:Journey to Babel).

After a distinguished time at Starfleet Academy, Spock served on the Artemis under the command of Captain Daniels, before being assigned to the Enterprise under the command of Christopher Pike (Vulcan's Glory - D.C. Fontana). During this voyage Spock met and had a relationship with T'Pris who was later killed (Vulcan's Glory - D.C. Fontana).

Spock stayed on the Enterprise when Captain Pike was replaced by James Tiberius Kirk as Captain (again there are a number of accounts of the beginings of these first voyages and the developing relationship between Spock and Kirk, e.g. Strangers from the sky - M.W. Bonano / Enterprise: the first adventure - V.N. McIntyre.).

Spock and Kirk became very close friends, as only those that use telepathy can. Later this friendship was extended to include Dr.Leonard McCoy and the famous triumvirate was established.

After Kirk's first 5 year mission, Spock briefly retired from Starfleet to pursue Kohlinar. However, after completion of the training, he did not go through the Kohlinar, as he was called (telepathically) back by Kirk ( StarTrek - the Motion Picture by Gene Rodenburry.) and the V'ger entity (ST-I -the movie) in 2271.

After the V'ger episode, Spock was promoted to Captain, although he always stayed as second in command when Kirk was on board the Enterprise.

In 2285 Spock was killed while saving the Enterprise from Kirk's old enemy Khan Noonian Singh (ST-II). Spock managed to pass his Katra to McCoy before his death. His body landed on the Genesis Planet. Kirk et.al. manage to retrieve Spock's body and with the Fal'tor'par technique Spock was reunited with his Katra (ST-III).

Later in life, Spock took on diplomatic duties in addition to his scientific interests. (ST-VI and TNG:Reunification).

Spock has been decorated many times over for his services to the Federation and Starfleet along side Captain Kirk.

* Selek is the older Spock gone back in time to assure the survival of his younger self. (D.C. Fontana - animated series).
